What does Allemansretten mean?

Allemannsretten is the right to move freely in the wild. It is an important part of the Norwegian cultural heritage. This public right requires showing consideration to nature, businesses and other users when walking around. Uncultivated land is land not farmed and comprises most of the water, beach, marsh, forest and mountains. Cultivated land consists of fields, meadows, cultivated pastures, gardens, young plantations, courtyards, house yards and industrial area, and is not covered by this public right. It is generally forbidden to light fires in forests and fields from 15 April to 15 September.
